I did get outside on Tuesday. I only ran to keep from being flattened in the middle of intersections, but I knew I’d have to work back up to running after being away for far, far too long. The weather wasn’t really that bad except for the wind. While I probably should repeat the whole adventure today, I’m not gonna. And you can’t make me. It’s gross outside....

Distractions.
Lots of them lately. Sometimes I don’t run. Sometimes I do and neglect to post about it. On the upside, I finally met someone who didn’t look at me crazy when I mentioned marathon training.

3.3 miles. 42 minutes. 12:43 pace Yikes. This is catching up on training so going to be tough. But I dug this hole, and I plan on digging my way out of this. It was a beautiful 59F tonight with just a few knee twinges that disappeared after a short walk break. Toward the end, there were a lot of those breaks. Strange Running Thing #78,945: When it feels like someone flicked you really, really...

I’m not going to give you all the reason I haven’t been running or exercising the last couple of weeks. I’ll tell you that the weather was spectaculartoday and I decided to go as far as I could and come back. I didn’t jog the whole time due to some discomfort from my lunch (which stayed lodged just under my diaphragm). And I found out that the only down side to doing this...

Go ahead and shame me.
I know it’s been a week today since I’ve done any kind of exercise. And believe me, I can feel the effects. And since Arkansas has not been spared the blizzard-like weather, I was planning on going to the local indoor track for a quick jaunt. However, I saw this article earlier today. That particular center is be turned into a warming center for locals without access to a warm place...

Ouch.
So, so veryveryveryvery sore today. UPDATE: RB and I went for a stroll through the deserted bike trail. Nice and easy just to keep the hamstrings from freezing up again tomorrow. RB got interrogated by the cops for looking like a pill pusher. Hilarious because he kind of does look like one.

8.65 miles. 1 hour, 53 minutes. 13:06 pace. But before we talk about over all pace let’s talk about split times. 2 miles—24 minutes. 4 miles—50 minutes. After that I lost track of my mile markers. I’m pretty proud of myself all things considered. No, I didn’t finish my 10 mile goal. Yes, my pace time is sluggish. But this is the farthest I’ve probably run...

First Long Run of 2011
Tonight I nursed my aching knee with some Bones and couch time. Tomorrow, I’m off work with no social distractions. Tomorrow will be the first long run of the year and half marathon training. Ten miles through some new territory and some old. Lots of hills, but lots of flat straight stretches too. Mixin’ it up in the C-town. Since it’s been a while since I’ve done much...

4 and small change. 51 minutes. Roughly 12:30 pace. This wasn’t so bad or so cold as I was expecting. The physical monotony of running provided a distraction while the fairly boring out-and-back gave my mind a chance to wander. There were a rainbow of topics. The half-marathon coming up and the training left to do. How horrible tonight’s movie choice was (please, don’t waste...

The computer says the temp just went back up a degree. So getting out on the streets at 10pm on a nearly freezing Saturday night doesn’t seem so crazy.

4 miles. ?? minutes. ??:?? pace. This may have been the fastest run of the year, but sadly I was so flustered that I forgot to check my start time. Why were you flustered, you may ask. A little inspiration from the widely-hailed Ben. Since it was a little racy, I won’t quote him here, but it had a lot to do with the physical attractiveness of female runners. And boy were my...

So I was not feeling the run thing tonight. And RB wussed out on me. But I just couldn’t allow myself to just sit here and enjoy some Queen Latifah on the boob tube. So I strapped on the trusty Asics and stepped out the door.  The local high school track is just out my back door now, so I slipped through the gate. It occured to me as I warmed up that I’ve probably definitely used that...

6.02 miles. 1 hour 24 minutes. 14:00 pace. After figuring up that pace time, I don’t even really want to talk about this run. But, how is that at all helpful. So I’ll start out by blaming the time I chose to take this run. I’m a night runner by habit, after 7pm is ideal for any of my activities, but I chose to hop up at 12:45 and hit the road. Maybe it’s the sunlight,...

4 miles. 50 minutes. 12:30 pace. I hate that the dates on this tumblr don’t seem to get any closer together, but whatever. I’m working on fixing that. Like I mentioned in my last post, it was hella cold out there. But I’m so glad I did it. From the second I started running, I felt better. There wasn’t a moment in the run when I thought “This was such a bad...

The longer I wait the worse it gets.
With the weather unseasonably cold here in the Natural State, it gets extra difficult to run. It doesn’t help that RB tapped out due to family emergency. But I’ve never regretted a run. Not even the ones that have left me feeling weak and sick. Not even the ones that gave me scars (yeah, that stick was out for blood). Not even the treks through rain and lightning. Not even the ones...

Beta, schmeta →
I know at least some of you out there have been/are using mapmyrun.com to keep track of how many happy miles you’ve been logging this year, but are you guys using the new beta site? I haven’t been too impressed with it. Besides the cleaner look of it, there’s not much that they’ve improved. Of course, a beta site is going to have some bugs in it, but when I draw a three...

3 miles (because I forgot the turn off for the 4th). 39 minutes. 13 minute pace. The drop in pace is due to my clothing situation. I must learn to dress appropriately. It may be 29F out but there’s no need for thermal underwear and sweats. The hoodie also kept pulling out my headphones. Annoying. I was worried that this run might exacerbate some lower back pain/stiffness I’ve been...

Black Swan
So Running Buddy (RB) and I decided to drop the pretenses tonight and just go see a movie. No running was going to happen tonight, so after much discussion we settled on the new Portman suspense. But was the diversion worth a missed day of training? Yes.

New route, 4 miles. 50 minutes. 12:30 pace. I think doing this new route in the dark was a bad idea. I didn’t get lost or anything, but I was so busy scoping out the neighborhood that I lost focus on my pace. I also forgot where my mile markers were for this route and could only remember where roughly two miles was. My split turned out to be 25 minutes, and I was so disappointed. However, I...

The road to hell and all that. I started out wanting to go for my run but with little motivation to get cold. So I let Running Buddy know I was going out and he said he’d tag along. Running Buddy and I are more like speed-walk-so-we-can-talk-and-not-sound-stupid-breathing-hard buddies. It’s great for comraderie but not so hot for the half marathon. Tomorrow can be a late night, so I...

First run of the new year. Sat around and watched movies on my parents’ super expanded cable package for HOURS! It was the laziest I’ve been in a long, long time. I deserved it, but my little running conscience kept bugging me. So I pulled on the jog pants and fleece jacket and fingerless gloves a la Running Buddy and headed out the door. Since I didn’t want to spend the time...

2011 Running Resolutions (Sorry for the repost)
There’s really only two: Run a half-marathon. Run a full marathon. Little Rock will serve nicely as my half. I still want to run the full some day, but there’s just not enough time to train between now and March. After reading Runner’s World’s January issue, I think I found my first full marathon. The Scranton, PA Steamtown Marathon in October. It’s supposed to be...

A new route is all mapped out (since I’m in a new house). The excitement of an impending race is coursing through my veins. The running clothes are unearthed from the boxes and boxes of junk. Now, I just have to wake up on time tomorrow. Oh-Noes-Update: Right now, there is a 70% chance it’ll be raining tomorrow morning. I don’t want to wuss out, but I also don’t want to...

Since it was my day off, I decided a daylight run might be nice. It’s definitely warmer now than it will be tonight, anyway. I actually broke a sweat! I know I did just around 3 miles, but I have no idea how fast. I forgot to check my phone when I kicked off since there was a stranger running about three feet in front of me. I was trying not to run her down on the narrow sidewalk, but I...

Went for a walk with Buddy since he was feeling under the weather and even with it being 5 degrees colder, I was a lot warmer. Wind makes a ton of difference. Maybe it’s the company.

34F and dropping.
But I’m going out on the pavement. Spending all day couped up in this place has got me antsy. Plus, if I don’t run, I’ll just have to pack and clean. Yuck. The shorter runs I’ve done in the last few weeks have been going well, and I’m ready to get back to stretching my distances. So tonight is going to be a 5 mile loop I ran a lot during training. The abundance of...

2.35 miles. 29 minutes. 12:34 pace. I swear I’ve been running between the last post and now, it’s just… you know, tumblr. Buddy and I are still working out how to run with each other, so our runs haven’t been blazing or anything. He may be faster than I am (which is good because it pushes me to be faster) but I think I have the upper hand on endurance (which is good...

Running Buddy was in charge of this run today. I let him pick the place (the bike trail) and the time (8pm when it’s really starting to get cold) and set the pace. So of course it turned out to be more of a run than we’ve done so far. Brisk warm up walk out, steady paced run back. Total 2.5+ miles. This was also the first time I’ve ever seen a opossum in real life. It was a baby...

The Challenge: Cutthroat
On the good team: a short after dinner run. On the not-so-good team: downloading and watching a Chris Pine movie I just found. As I sit here with my bowl of mac n’ cheese, an epic battle between motivation and smexy actors. Who will win?

Warming up and chilling out
Last night, I spontaneously decided that I needed a jog to work off some work stress. So Buddy (his real name shall be withholden until he knows about this tumblr and approves) and I hit the open road. At some point we’ll start running, I promise, but tonight we mostly walked and talked, again. Then we defrosted while poking fun of Dan on MTV. Having a new person come over to my apartment...

Easy breezy, beautiful fall evening. No rain, mild temps meant a trip down the nature trail. While we ran more tonight than I think we did last night, we still wound up walking alot. All together it was close to three miles. There was almost no one out (imagine that), so we had the trail to ourselves mostly. One guy blew past us doing a nice jog succeeding in two things: scaring the shit out of...

I’m not really sure how much of this was running, how much was walking, how much was skipping (okay, that was just me). I do know there was a lot of talking; running and talking is HARD. It was a good 50 minutes of exercise. Maybe tomorrow will be more structured…maybe not.

Tomorrow: The Procrastinator's Creed
I have a running date with a buddy at 8pm. Hopefully this will be the beginning of a long stretch of consistent running, maybe even leading to training for some kind of race. Maybe a good friendship. But this is the first time I’ve run with someone else. Usually it’s just me, my outdated iPod jams, and the road. No worries, no judgement. I’m worried either he or I (more likely)...

I told you so.
3 miles. 42 minutes. 14:00 pace. Shamefully slow, but I did it. I could feel my muscles relearning the stride and rhythm. This is the first run where I felt I might actually die. People around here are still trying to drive in the bike lane (where I run and bike). This time it was a huge, blue Dodge pickup that didn’t swerve out of the way when I waved but kept coming closer. Eventually I...

3 miles. 39 minutes. 13:00 pace. Got out in the early morning sunshine. I love running this time of year with low humidity and temperatures. (I’m going to keep raving about this for a while, folks, settle in.) Surprisingly, I met a few fellow runners on the roads. Don’t these people have jobs? But then I realized I’m just like them. So after that bout of insanity, I started to...

2.5 miles. 32 minutes. 12:40 pace. So it wasn’t all I expected it to be. (Dreams of my swiftfooted conquest of 5 miles had been hiding in the corners of my mind, I will admit.) But I’m okay with that. I won’t say this reignited my lust for running either. My knees hurt and a minor health issue flared up painfully, and I stopped when I needed to (not at any excuse which is an...

Well, if you're still here
Then you’re probably wondering what has become of that crazy girl who was going to run a marathon with minimal training under her belt. Well, she had an anxiety attack, broke down, did some serious thinking, and decided to postpone her marathon debut until further notice. Long story short, working full time, running a full marathon schedule, and keeping up with life was just too much on my...

6 miles. 81 minutes. 13:30 pace. So this run was a lot harder than Tuesday’s. Alot a lot. My feet hurt; I was pissed off from work; I was depressed from dropping two benjamins on gifts and wardrobe (mostly my wardrobe); it was at least ten degrees hotter tonight. In general, I’d much rather sit on my couch and forget the marathon altogether. But I know that sometime soon I’ll...
